(This article was published in the bimonthly newsletter of Electrical Technocrats Association - ETA)
It is a very common fact that Entrepreneurship has become a buzz word these days. As the awareness level is grow up, naturally, an ecosystem of entrepreneurship try to evolve.
To accelerate the growth of entrepreneurship, there are a few organisations that are actively involved in promoting entrepreneurship, both among the young and the experienced people. Let us look at a very few organisations that help students to become an entrepreneur.
1. NEN (National Entrepreneurship Network)
2. TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs)
3. EDI (Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India)
NEN (National Entrepreneurship Network)
NEN was started way back in 2003 as a Non Profit Organisation by the joint efforts of IIT Bombay; IIM Ahmedabad; BITS, Pilani; SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai; Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore.
The main objective of the organisation is to promote entrepreneurship, thus leading to job creation and economic growth. The organisation mainly concentrates towards the students and functions at numerous educational institutes across the breadth and depth of the country.
The organisation also has a online web portal (http://www.nenonline.org) where a lot of information and tools are available to help new and budding entrepreneurs.
I would be happy to introduce the concerned authorities, if MSEC is interested to start a chapter of NEN.
TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs)
TiE was established in Silicon Valley, way back in 1992. The organisation, a not for profit organisation has chapters all over the world, including one in Chennai. The organisation organises various events such as My Story Session, Technology Talk, etc. There are various membership schemes, including special packages for students.
EDI (Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India)
The Entrepreneurship Development Institute was set up in 1983 with the aid of SBI, IDBI, IFCI and ICICI. The institute offers various courses including a full time MBA program in Management. The course curriculum is suited in such a way that various nuances of entrepreneurship are easily imbibed by the students. The full time MBA program in entrepreneurship is a god platform for the undergraduate students who like to be an entrepreneur.
There are various other organisations as well that support entrepreneurship. Interested readers can get in touch me for further details.

Ulaginoli Energy Solutions - Boniface Pascal
NEN (National Entrepreneurship Netwrok) Newsletter October 2010
BY RADHIKA SAXENA | OCT 2010
Boniface Pascal, former NEN E Leader from Chennai’s Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), decided to explore the energy sector because he was determined to work on something “eco-friendly.”
So Boniface, encouraged by his NEN Faculty Leader to pursue his dream, decided to give campus placements a miss. And despite parental disapproval, while still in college, he launched ‘Ulaginoli Energy Solutions’ in November 2009, as a one stop shop to provide energy efficiency related solutions. However, the team moved into their office premises in June 2010 and Ulaginoli began full fledged operations in September 2010.
One of the start-up’s primary offerings is its solar energy solutions. Boniface and his team identify a client’s energy needs based on requirement and budget and accordingly, design a solar energy package that will work for them. The startup also installs the designed package for the client, which includes solar panels and other equipment.
Since it started regular operations, Ulaginoli Energy Solutions has worked on three projects in Tamil Nadu and is in discussions with nearly 30 potential clients across the state. With 3 employees and a turnover of three lakhs since September 2010, the start-up is also expanding its services to provide energy audits, carbon advisories and consulting in ‘green’ building design.
